Melbourne's Humid Climate Poses Challenges for Rose Cultivation
A persistent weather pattern, characterised by a stationary trough over northern Australia, is drawing tropical moisture into Victoria. This has resulted in significantly higher humidity levels in Melbourne, which can adversely affect the growing conditions in our glasshouses. To safeguard our rose plants, we are implementing preventative measures to mitigate the impact of these changing weather conditions.
We're taking a three-pronged approach to manage humidity in our glasshouses:
Ventilation: By improving air circulation, we can reduce humidity levels and create a less favourable environment for fungal diseases.
Temperature Regulation: Controlling the temperature within our glasshouses allows us to regulate humidity. Higher temperatures enable the air to hold more moisture, minimizing condensation.
Proactive Treatments: We're applying preventative sprays to protect our roses from the harmful effects of high humidity.
What's in our buckets?!
The water in our rose buckets contains a disinfectant agent called: Sporekill®
The active ingredient in Sporekill® is: Didecyldimethylammonium Chloride
Sporekill is a powerful disinfectant that's perfect for keeping our rose buckets clean and your blooms fresh. It's a broad-spectrum sanitiser that effectively kills bacteria and fungi that can shorten the lifespan of flowers.
By adding a small amount of Sporekill to the water in our rose buckets, it significantly reduces the risk of harmful microorganisms that can clog stems and cause premature wilting. This helps roses drink up the water and stay vibrant for longer.
Plus, Sporekill is non-toxic and biodegradable, making it a safe and an eco-friendly choice.
This means when you pick up your rose orders in our buckets there is no need to change the water!
