Rose Protection: A Sky-High Solution

Australia's sun can be incredibly harsh, especially during the summer months. For delicate flowers like roses, this intense sunlight can cause damage to the petals, leaves, and overall health of the plant. To protect our precious rose bushes, we have turned to an innovative and efficient solution: helicopter-applied shading agents.

How Does It Work?

Shading agents are specialised coatings that are applied to glasshouse surfaces. These coatings reduce the amount of sunlight that enters the greenhouse, creating a more controlled environment for the roses. By mitigating the harsh effects of the sun, shading agents help to:

  • Prevent sunburn: Protect the delicate rose petals from scorching and discoloration.

  • Reduce heat stress: Keep the greenhouse cooler, preventing the roses from wilting and suffering heat-related damage.

  • Improve flower quality: Enhance the colour, size, and longevity of the blooms.

  • Increase yields: Promote healthier and more productive rose bushes.

The Role of Helicopters

Applying shading agents to large glasshouses can be a time-consuming and labour-intensive task. Helicopters offer a much more efficient and effective way to cover these vast areas. Equipped with specialized spraying equipment, helicopters can quickly and evenly distribute the shading agent across the glasshouse surface. This aerial application ensures complete coverage and minimizes the risk of human error.

Benefits of Helicopter-Applied Shading Agents

  • Speed and efficiency: Helicopters can cover large areas in a fraction of the time it would take to apply the shading agent manually.

  • Precision: The spraying equipment on helicopters allows for precise application, ensuring even coverage and minimizing waste.

  • Accessibility: Helicopters can reach areas that are difficult or impossible to access by ground crews.

  • Cost-effectiveness: While the initial cost of helicopter application may be higher, the long-term benefits in terms of improved crop quality and increased yields can outweigh the investment.
